Alcester (SD) Union newspaper, Dec 29, 1910: "Ernestene Wilhelmine Ulrich was born January 17, 1927 (sic), in Tuetz, West Prussia, Germany. She was united in marriage to Ludwig Draves, of the same place. To this union seven children were born, five of whom preceded her in death. In 1868 with her husband she emigrated to the United States and located near Rosendale, Wis., where they lived on a farm owned by the late David Jenkins until 1874. During that year they came to Dakota and homesteaded the farm located three miles southwest of Alcester. This was her home until about a year ago when she moved to town to spend her remaining days in the home of her son. Her husband died in the spring of 1902. Mrs. Draves passed away at the home of her son at two o'clock on Wednesday morning, December 21, 1910. Death was due to pneumonia. Her illness was very brief, having only been sick three days. Her suffering was very severe until unconsciousness relieved her of pain. She leaves to mourn her death one son and one daughter -- A. H. Draves and Mrs. H. H. Johannsen -- and one sister, Mrs. Franz Richter, of this place. The funeral services were held Friday from the German Lutheran church conducted by Rev. Henry Schuetz. Interment was made in the Germany cemetery where she was laid to rest beside her husband. The pall bearers were: W. Wilkins, Peter Numsen, C. Keiser, H. F. Hartman, Aug. Kroll and Aug. Ludwig. She was a faithful member of the German Lutheran church, which she joined at an early age. Both her parents having died while she was but a child she was reared and educated by her grandparents. Being one of the first settlers in this part of country she enjoyed a large circle of friends and was loved and respected by all, who now join in extending sympathy to the bereaved relatives."
