Alvertice "Junior Boy" Bowdre, Jr., was born in Thyatira, Tate County, Mississippi, on Monday, July 21st, 1930. His parents were Alvertice Bowdre, Sr. and Clyde Vernice Cooper. Alvertice Bowdre, Sr. was gospel preacher who collaborated with other black preachers to organize the beginning of Southwestern Christian College in Terrell, Kaufman County, Texas.

Alvertice "Junior Boy" Bowdre was one of the first students when the College opened its doors in 1949. He received Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in Bible.

While in school, Brother Bowdre met the love of his life, Larneatha Evans. They married on August 20th, 1954, and raised four children.

Alvertice enjoyed a long career preaching for black churches of Christ. He served congregations in Indiana, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Texas.
