POSSIBLY the subject of this report in the "Royal Cornwall Gazette", 20 June 1835:
"A MISER. - A man named Arthur, an eccentric of very penurious habits, died last week at St Ewe, near St. Austell. He lived by himself, employing only an old charwoman to milk his cows, and attend to domestic duties about the house, which being concluded, she was sent away. On the day he died she had attended as usual, and on leaving he desired her to be early in the evening, as he felt himself unwell. - On her return, however, he was found dead. On enquiry late the circumstances of this eccentric being it was found, that although he lived so close a life, he had amassed nearly £3000!!! which he has bequeathed to his brothers, and left a few legacies, some of which are in sums of £12, to be paid to certain persons named in his will, on condition that they join some religious society at least three months prior to their being paid; and £5 to the Brianite body to which he belonged, which is to be paid by instalments of half-a-crown each."
