Carro Johnson Wood Smith, 79, of 443 Ledbetter St. Cedartown, passed away Sunday, May 30, 2004 following a brief illness. She was born in Polk County on Dec. 19, 1924. She spent most of her life in Polk County and retired from Floyd Medical Center as a nurse. She was a member of Union Grove Baptist Church of Cedartown. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Bert Wood, Sr. and by her second husband, William Lee Smith; her parents, Sidney Johnson and Frances McBurnett Johnson; brothers, Dewey "Bud" Clarence Johnson, Edgar D. Johnson and Sidney Johnson, Jr.; sisters, Martha Malinda J. Dean, Beatrice J. McClain, Flora Jane J. Hurley and Addie J. Presley. Survivors include her son, Bert Wood, Jr. of Cedartown; sisters, Ida Mae J. Ragsdale, Louise J. Crowley and Georgia J. Sensing, all of Cedartown; five grandchildren, one step grandson, seven great grandchildren, one step great great grandchild. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, June 1 at 3 p.m. from the Chapel of the Gammage Funeral Home with Rev. Dennis Conway officiating. Interment followed in the Greenwood Cemetery. The Gammage Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. (The Cedartown Standard June 3, 2004)
