Mary and Ade divorced before 1951. Mary E. (Fletcher) Barnes remarried Neal Pershing Ward on April 20, 1951. He adopted the young lad and Ade took the name of Neal Clinton Ward.
Neal and Mary had two daughters, Elizabeth Jo “Liz” Behrens-McGinty and Cassie Ferrell.
Mary was an advocate in the POW/MIA movement after son Neal “Clint” Ward was shot down over Laos in 1969.
For the rest of her life, she believed he would be found alive and returned to the United States.
