Husb. of Elizabeth Nixon; father of Robert, buried here. Son of John & Martha Elizabeth [Derrishaw] Berryhill. William was born in the Old Creek Nation. As an adult, his life was threatened by opponents to his pro-removal stance & he fled to Texas to unite with other Indian tribes who had settled there eventually coming to Mount Tabor He lived among the Ridge Party Cherokees, who were themselves pro-removal and the Yowani Choctaws whose relationship with the Choctaw Nation was complicated following the Choctaw Civil war of 1757.
