1992 obituary. PATTEN - Robert Adams, 90, died Dec. 8, 1992, at Houlton. He was born May 29, 1902, on a farm on the Waters Road in Patten, the son of Clarence A. and Mary (Kieely) Adams. He lived all of his life in Patten and was noted for his civic interests in his town, including being selectman, treasurer, clerk and auditor for Patten. He was chief air raid warden during World War II and civil defense director during the Korean War. He was a fireman from 1931 until present and assistant chief for 10 years. He was past master of Katahdin Lodge No. 98 AF & AM, where he was a 65-year member. He was a trustee of the Milliken Memorial Hospital and vice president for several years. He was industrial director for Patten for several years and trustee of the Patten Academy. He was chairman of the Superintendent School Committee; secretary of the Katahdin Little League; and secretary of the Katahdin Valley Mutual Fire Association. He was a director of Katahdin Trust Co., where he served as assistant treasurer for 11 years. He was partner and owner of the Patten Hardware for more than 29 years, bale commissioner and a notary public. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Minnie (Burpee) Adams of Patten; five children, Marada Read of Martinville, Va., Roberta Finnemore of Des Moines, Iowa, Richard Adams of Washington, D.C., Patricia Main of Naples, Fla. and Donald Adams of Patten; three grandchildren, six great-grandchildren. Friends may call 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Bowers Funeral Home, Patten, where masonic services will be held at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held 23 p.m. Friday at the Stetson Memorial Methodist Church, Patten, with the Rev. Edwin Vanderheide officiating. Interment will be in Patten Cemetery.
