Thomas O’Connell Carter Sr., 73, of Mechanicsville, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2010. He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Henry Carter and Johnnie Lee Matthews Carter; 10 brothers and sisters, Wilbur, George, Sam, Herbert, Kitty, Helen, Margaret, Richard, Delores and Harry. He is survived by his brother, Leonard Carroll Carter and his wife, Barbara; four children, Vickie Carter McKinley, David Wayne Carter, Thomas O’Connell Carter Jr. and Bryan Keith Carter; grandchildren, Fred, Rebecca, Jennifer and James Weymouth, David, Daniel, Joseph, Michael, Christopher, Jeremy, Sean, Rose, Kelly and Mauve Carter; great-grandchildren, Cambell, Riley, Victoria, Alivia, Alexandria, Mallory, Liam, Lexi and Ariel Marie; a host of nieces and nephews, and longtime friend, Minnie Mitchell. Mr. Carter was a U.S. Army veteran serving with the 82nd Airborne Division. The family received friends Friday, Sept. 17, 2010 at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Rd., where funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 18, 2010. Graveside services were held in Rosewell Memorial Cemetery, Hayes, Va., Saturday, Sept. 18, 2010.
