Obituary: Samuel Joseph Carrel was born June 8, 1857 in Herre Haute, Decatur County, Iowa, (Note: Terre Haute IN?) and passed away at Livermore, Iowa, June 27, 1929, at the age of 71 years, 11 months and 19 days.

He moved with his parents to Boone County, Iowa, when but a small boy, where he grew to manhood. On June 28, 1885, he was united in marriage to Charlotte Herdman, who passed away November 11th, 1911. To this union was born six children, three girls and three boys: Mrs. I. C. Williams of Winnebago County, Minn; Roy and Walter of Boone County, Iowa; Mrs. George Hoke of Des Moines, Elsie Carrel of Chicago, and John, deceased in 1927. He moved from Boone County to the southwestern part of Minnesota, where he farmed for 8 years, and moved to Livermore in 1912, having lived here for the past 17 years.

He was again united in marriage to Mrs. Bertha Falb, September 3rd, 1914, who so tenderly cared for him during his illness, which was a duration of three years and three months, having been stricken with paralysis. He was never heard to complain of his condition or to become dissatisfied, always looking forward to the time when he would be up and able to enjoy the blessings of life.

The funeral services were held in the Methodist church Saturday morning, June 29th, conducted by Rev. Howard Reyman, pastor of the Methodist church here. Interment took place in Liberty cemetery in Boone County,(IA) the burial services being under the auspices of the Brotherhood of Odd fellows, of which he was a member.

The pall bearers were Ernest Boyd, Ed Malkmus, Tom McKenna, Charley Brown, Wallace Taylor and Karl Baessler.

Besides the above mentioned children, he is survived by two brothers and one sister, Charley of California, Ace of Indianola, Iowa, and Mrs. Simon Homesley of Woodward, Iowa. Also nine grandchildren. All of the children were present at the funeral.

Out of town people in attendance at the funeral were Mrs. Simon Homesley, Mr. and Mrs. Troy Homesley, Mr. and Mrs. F. Guthrie, Mrs. Wm. Carrel, all of Woodward; Grover Carrel of Ogden, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. E. F. Bell, Mrs. Frank Dogotch, Mr. and Mrs. Walton Falb of Whittemore, and Mrs. Mary Dick of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
