Sue F. Foy died peacefully on August 4, 2019 at the age of 99. She leaves behind three children, three grandchildren, and a large coterie of friends and admirers who will miss a remarkably sweet and gentle person.
Sue was born in New York City but grew up in the San Francisco area. She started college at San Jose State but, instead of finishing her degree, she came down to Los Angeles. She did find romance, which led to marriage and a son, who now lives in Connecticut.
That first marriage gradually deteriorated and finally ended, which led to a difficult period of healing and rebuilding. The healing process was greatly aided by her growing involvement in the Jungian community of Southern California. It was through this community that Sue met Glenn Foy, the true love of her life, to whom she was married for almost 63 years.
Sue and Glenn lived for a while in Westchester then moved to Playa del Rey, where they lived for 53 years. They had two children, Craig and Elizabeth, who both live in California.
After Glenn died in January 2018, Sue moved into Sunrise Senior Living. Though she tended to think of herself as shy and introverted, in fact she was a very sociable person with a genuine interest in other people. She was unusually open-minded and non-judgmental, which drew people to her.
Sue always felt a little self-conscious about not finishing college, but she was smart, curious, a voracious reader, and a graceful writer. Her thoughts were always her own, never just extracted from a book, always filtered through her own unique view of the world.
During her last few years, as her body became increasingly unable to respond to her wishes, Sue achieved an astonishing degree of serenity. Despite all her physical limitations, she never got tired of living, but she was never afraid of dying.
