Eleazer was two years old when his parents moved to Johnstown in 1784. He became an owner of many acres of land, being engaged in milling and farming. Eleazer purchased Johnson Hall for $2000 in 1829, from his brother-in-law James Akin, where Amy had lived since her family moved there in 1803. For many years a large picture of Eleazer and Amy hung in the Library of Johnson Hall.

Amy's sister Sarah married Nathan Wells. Then in 1823, Ira Akin wed Mrs. Mercy Ann Wells, widow of John Wells (1778-Bef. 1823) who was a brother of Nathan and Eleazer Wells.
