Alexander Alexander, a resident of section 32, Westport township was born in Ayrshire, Scotland, in the month of April, 1824. His parents were John & Elizabeth (Corson) Alexander, both residents of Scotland. The parents were reared, married & died in the same country. The father was a cabinet maker. Their children were Alexander, Jane, Elizabeth, John & Robert.
In about 1843 Alexander went to England for 2 years working in the cabinet trade in Liverpool. From there he went to Quebec in 1845, where he worked in his trade for 2.5 years. He next went to Montreal, and worked at steam boat joiner work, for a year and a half. He then went to Chicago, Illinois, and began the business of a millwright pattern-maker. To this business he really devoted about the balance of his life, or until coming to Pope County, MN in 1877. He purchased about 220 acres, but does not personally farm it.
He was married Miss Ann McConnell, a native of Canada, in 1848 and they were blessed with one daughter, who is now the wife of James E. Stalker, of Westport Township. Ann died of cholera in Chicago. He married his second wife Miss Margaret Steward, a native of Scotland, She died in Minneapolis in 1873. His last marriage was to Miss Mary Stalker, in 1880.
