Andy Bodnar Jr., 82 years, of Marianna, Deemston Borough, Pa., died Saturday, June 23, 2007, in his home.

He was born November 1, 1924, in Republic, Pa., the son of Andrew Bodnar Sr. and Rose Kosa Bodnar.

Mr. Bodnar graduated from Brownsville High School, Class of 1942.

A World War II veteran, Mr. Bodnar served from 1943 to 1946 with the United States Army. He was Honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant. For his service, he was awarded the American Theatre Ribbon, the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Ribbon, World War II Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.

Mr. Bodnar was employed by H. C. Frick (United States Steel, Bridgeport) for 18 years.

For 27 years, he owned and operated Bodnar's Service in Low Hill, Pa.

He was also employed by Independent Oil, Smock, Pa.

He was a lifetime member of Calvin United Presbyterian Church, Brownsville, Pa., and a member of the Steele-Lillie American Legion Post 744 in Marianna.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and visiting casinos.

On July 30, 1947, he married Bernice "Bea" Ware Bodnar, who survives. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are three daughters: L. Joyce Geary and her husband, Chuck, of Ruskin, Florida, Candace Dunn and her husband, Bob, of Washington, Pa., and Nancy A. Wright and her husband, Tom, of Sycamore, Pa.; one son, Paul Bodnar; three grandchildren: Kristy L. Kelly (and Brent), Erran M. Wright and Wesley T. Wright; one great-granddaughter, Mackenzie Haladyna; and two sisters: Margaret Sarkett of Washington, Pa., and Elsie Fusco of Uniontown, Pa.

Deceased are his parents, a son, Terry A. Bodnar who died December 24, 1977, and a sister, Rose Kovacs.

Friends will be received on Thursday, June 28, 2007, from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. in the GREENLEE FUNERAL HOME, 2830 Main Street (Route 40), Beallsville, Pa. A Memorial Service will begin at 11 a.m. The Rev. Alexander Jalso will officiate.

Military Rites and Honors will be accorded by the Steele-Lillie American Legion Post 744, Marianna.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the American Cancer Society or to the American Heart Association. Mr. Bodnar was a three-time cancer survivor.
