Television Journalist. He is remembered for his reporting on the programs "NBC Nightly News" and "The Today Show" as well as his hosting the TV series "Biography" (1993 to 2005). His father was an electrical engineer, he studied Political Science and Religion at Case Western Reserve University and while there, he gained experience as a broadcaster for the school's radio station. Following gradation, he landed a job at NBC where he wrote for David Brinkley. Among his early assignment was foreign correspondent in Asia and nationally, he covered President Kennedy's assassination (1963), the Vietnam War and Robert Kennedy's assassination (1968). Perkins shared hosting duties with Peter Graves on the popular A&E Network series "Biography." He relocated to Sarasota, Florida and hosted the weekly TV program "A Gulf Coast Journal" from 2004 until 2012. He died of complications from Parkinson's disease in Casey Key, Florida.
