Andrea Borhaven was born in the Langley, BC in 1972 to Roger Borhaven and Sharon Lochrie and was raised in Armstrong, BC. She had been in and out of the foster care system, eventually living on Vancouver's Downtown Eastside where she was known as "Spider".
Andrea had been in Witness Protection after surviving a violent assault, but until that time had been in regular contact with her mother in Vernon. Her DNA was found on the Pickton farm, but charges against Robert Pickton were stayed.
She did have family but developed friendships which became her family. She was bright, funny and had dreams of a clean life doing normal things. She was capable of love, and had been loved.
