Per Mary's wishes, cremation rites have been accorded and there will not be any services. A private burial will be at a later date in St. Vincent's Cemetery in La Salle. The Hurst Funeral Home in La Salle is entrusted with her arrangements.
Ruth was born in Streator on October 22, 1927, to George and Mary (Jacobson) Sabol. She graduated from Streator Township High School. Ruth then lived and worked in banking in Oakland, California, returning to the Streator area in 1956. She then married Richard E. Cleary after he returned from the military.
Ruth was a homemaker and wonderful mother. She later worked for James H. Black/Sunstar Foods, running their mail room in Streator.
Ruth was an avid reader and never was shy about her opinion on anything. She loved good food and family holidays.
Ruth is survived by her son, Richard S. (Tracy) Cleary of Peru and her daughter Carole (Tim) Scullans of Oswego; two sisters, Helen (Harold) Peters of Hampton, Virginia, and Gloria (Frank) Morgan of Richardson, Texas; five grandchildren, Amy, Christopher, Shelby, Nathan, and Nicholas; four great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Kai, Bodhi and Michaela.
She was preceded in death by her husband Richard, on January 31, 2003, her parents, and five siblings, Margaret, Evelyn, Roseanne, Robert, and Donald.
