Audrey McNair Byrd, 87, of Prosperity, wife of the late Dewey Byrd, Sr., died early morning on Friday, August 30. 2019 at her home with family surrounding her.
Born on March 1, 1932 in Banks County, GA, she was a daughter of the late Olin McNair and Mamie Hardy McNair Collins.
Mrs. Byrd shared her life in supporting her husband and in raising their four children. She attended the College Street Church of God and had served as a volunteer for Palmetto Health Hospice. She was also a former school bus driver.
She is survived by her children, Dewey B. Byrd, Jr. (Jackie) of Saluda, Eddie L. Byrd (Sharon) of Newberry and Frances Howard (Clarence) of Prosperity; 12 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren; siblings, W.O. McNair (Theresa) of Keystone Heights, FL, Rondell Payne of Yamassee, SC and Ray Payne (Betty) of Elizabethtown, KY.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a son, Rev. Walter Byrd and six siblings.
Visitation will be from 6:00 pm until 7:30 pm on Saturday, August 31 at the Whitaker Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 PM on Sunday, September 1, 2019 at the Newberry Church of God with Rev. Timothy Haulbrook and Rev. Dewain Willis officiating. The casket will be placed in the church at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Christopher Byrd, Eric Byrd, Chris Cockrell, Stephen Byrd, Brian Byrd and Leon Howard. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
