GREENSBORO Janice Moore Little, 91, died January 3, 2017 at Well-Spring Retirement Community. Janice was born in Greensboro to the late Lucy and Malcolm Hooke. At age six months, she moved to Paris, France with her parents and learned to speak French before English. Janice returned to Greensboro at age two. She attended Curry School, the teacher demonstration and practice school of Women's College, graduating in 1941. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the Women's College of the University of North Carolina (UNC-G) in 1944 at age 19 and completed a master's degree in French literature in 1970, with children still at home.

Janice was married to the late Kirby Moore for 47 years and is survived by their two sons: Alan Moore and wife Beverly of Winston-Salem, NC, and Chris Moore and wife Ruth Nielsen of Seattle, WA. Also surviving are her grandchildren: Lucy Moore (Harald Fuller-Bennett) of Takoma Park, MD; Claire Thurman-Moore (Steph) of Bellingham, WA; and Kirby Moore of Winston-Salem, NC.

Later in life, Janice married the late Ford Little and is survived by his children: Patricia Litchfield and husband William of Washington, NC; Jean Trott and husband William of Raleigh, NC; and Dean Little and wife Kathleen of Greensboro, NC. Also surviving are his grandchildren: Joe Pollock (Missy) of Charlotte; Elizabeth and Will Trott of Raleigh, Ford Dean Little IV of Greensboro, and Nicole Sullivan LaRose (Jonathan) of Charleston, SC. Janice was predeceased by her brothers and their wives: Dr. Robert Hooke and his wife Annis, and Dr. Bill Hooke and his wife Nancy.

Janice was a member of the Junior League of Greensboro and the First Presbyterian Church. She was an active volunteer with a group from First Presbyterian, Holy Trinity and Temple Emanuel that started one of the first after-school programs in the city. Her activities included supervising swimming at the Hayes-Taylor YMCA, taking the students on field trips to the zoo and Morehead Planetarium, and tutoring students in reading. For almost 30 years, Janice continued to volunteer as a reading tutor at several schools. Even after moving to Well-Spring, she was a volunteer tutor to students at Summerfield Elementary School and to adults in a literacy program, teaching English as a second language. Janice served as president of Well-Spring's Residents' Council during its fifth year of operation.

The family would like to thank the dedicated staff at Well-Spring for the kind and expert care they gave Janice over the years. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at 2 p.m. in Richardson Auditorium, Well-Spring Retirement Community, 4100 Well-Spring Dr., Greensboro, NC.
