Roy Shumaker Dies at Age 63
---Roy Shumaker, 63, of La Plata, a retired farmer, died Sun. night at the University Medical Center in Columbia where he had been a patient since Wednesday.
---Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the La Plata Christian Church with the Rev. Stanley East, Jr. officiating. Burial was in the La Plata Cemetery.
---Mr. Shumaker was born April 10, 1906 in the Illinois Bend community in Adair County, the son of Phillip Sheridan and Effie Mae Bragg Shumaker. He was married Sept. 9, 1965 to Emma Matheny, who survives. Also surviving are one step-daughter, Mrs. Dolly Snow, of Novelty; three step-grandchildren; three brothers, Phillip and Foster Shumaker of Flint, Mich., and Howard Shumaker of Indiana; four sisters, Mrs. James (Alta) Langford, Mrs. Louie (Edith) Storm of Flint, Mich. and Mrs. Lawrence (Hazel) Thompson of Route 4, La Plata.
---He had been preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and three sisters.
---Mr. Shumaker had farmed and lived in the Illinois Bend community all his life until moving to La Plata in 1968. He was a member of the Illinois Bend Church.
