Son of the late Phillip Sheridan and Effie Bragg Shumaker, he was the widower of Alverta Hughes Perry. He was a retired master sgt. with the United States Marines. He served during WWII. After retirement, he worked as a self-employed house painter. He was survived by two sons, Donald Shumaker (Sue) and Lloyd Thomas "Tommy" Perry (Gayle); four grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and an extended family of relatives. His graveside funeral services were held July 6, 2010, at Capeharts Baptist Church with The Rev. Jake Dunlow officiating.
