Willis Martin, son of Martin Martin and Dicey Hicks Martin, migrated to Arkansas and a large number of his descendants are still in the Central Arkansas Region. He left Spartanburg, S.C. between 1823 and 1832. He married Elizabeth Ferguson in Alabama in 1833. They had one child Dicey C. Martin, and then moved on to Pulaski County, Arkansas about 1836. There were six more children before 1850. The 1850 Census shows the family living in Prairie Township.

Willis probably died between 1851 and 1860 as the 1860 Census for the family indicates Willis absent and Elizabeth as "Widower". The youngest child is Nancy and she was born in 1851. The census was taken on June 29, 1860.
