Alvin Swaim was born on April 3, 1871, in Bartholomew County, Indiana. He was the soon of Thomas and Nancy McClure Swaim.

On October 8, 1892, Alvin Swaim and Mary Evelyn Jordan were married in Decatur County, Indiana.

They had one child, Mable Swaim, born on March 31, 1898.

OBITUARY: Paralysis Fatal to Alvin Swaim. Prominent Farmer of County Dies After Ten Weeks' Illness

Alvin Swaim, 53, a life-long resident of this county, and a prominent farmer, passed away last night at 8 o'clock at his home twelve miles east of the city, death being due to paralysis with which he was stricken ten weeks ago.

Mr. Swaim was born near Walesboro, Wayne township and lived there until he was eight years old when with his parents he moved to the farm on which he died. He was owner of much land and was a most prosperous farmer. By the scores of friends who knew him, he was regarded as a man worth while. He was always honest, hard working and sincere in his dealings with others and was a high example of splendid manhood. He was a member of and an officer in the Methodist church at Newbern and was active in church circles until the first of the year, when his health failed. Mr. Swaim was director in the Hartsville bank. He was also a member of the Hartsville Knghts of Pythias order. He leaves a widow, Mrs. Eva Swaim, a daughter, Mrs. Garnett Anderson, of east of the city; a brother, John Swaim, of Edinburg, Texas, and three sisters, Mrs. John Wiley, Mrs. Sherman Peek and Mrs. Ed Crussel, of Newbern.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at the residence at 1 o'clock, conducted by the Rev. T. A. Hobinson, pastor of the Methodist church at Hartsville. Burial in the Garland Brook Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were delayed today for a time in the hope that the brother , who is now in the South, could be located but efforts to find him proved unsucessful.
