Mrs. Mary Evelyn Swaim, widow of Alvin Swaim and a native of Decatur county, died at 2:15 o'clock Thursday afternoon at the home of a grandson, Howard Anderson, at 2234 Home Avenue. Her home was on Route 1, near Hartsville, but she had been moved to the grandson's home after becoming ill.
She died on her 76th birthday.
Mrs. Swaim was born on February 5, 1872, in Decatur county, the daughter of Daniel and Caroline Proctor Jordan. She married Alvin Swaim October 8, 1892, and he preceded her in death February 25, 1924.
A daughter, Mabel Swaim Anderson, died March 8, 1926.
Mrs. Swaim was active in church affairs. She held membership in Newbern Methodist church, was a member of W.C.T.U. at Newbern and belonged to W.S.C.S. organization of the Methodist church in that community.
Survivors include a brother, Frank Jordan of Decatur couty; a grandon of this city, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the Hathaway funeral home with the Rev. C. H. Allison, pastor of Newbern Methodist church in charge. Burial will be made at Garland Brook cemetery.
The casket is open at the funeral home where friends may call until time of the services Saturday.
