Mr. Ray, a native of Ballard County, died at 7:57 a.m. Tuesday at Lourdes Hospital.

He was a member of Hills Chapel AME Church where he served on Steward Board. He was a retired employee of the Illinois Central Gulf Railroad, where he worked for 32 years.

His parents were Henry and Elizabeth Ray.

Surviving are his wife, Ethel Ray; two sons, Nathaniel Ray and Aaron Ray, both of Akron, Ohio; two daughters, Mary Hammonds of Washington, D.C., and Barbara Townsley of Paducah; three brothers, Q.L. Ray and Edward Ray, both of Milwaukee, and Herdis Ray of Paducah; four sisters, Gerlie Smith, Edna Elliott, Mary Burt and Earlie C. McCury, all of Milwaukee; 15 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
