During his early life he was a sailor making many trips on the oceans and visiting many different countries. He followed the life of a woodsman during his long residency in Park Rapids. He was a teamster for the Conner and Wilson Logging Co and was well liked by his many acquaintances as he always looked on the bright side of life. He died at the Poor Farm in Park Rapids, MN.
