The Cause of Zeigler's Death Bakersfield October 20— Charles Zeigler and Seodie were partners in a mine at Piute and Tom Herbert was an employe Zeigler and Herbert worked the mine and Scodie lived at home on the South Fork. Zeigler and Herbert quarreled last Thursday and the former went to Scodie’s house, got the money and paid Herbert off and said he did not want him any longer. The above facts were witnessed by a Frenchman who has since mysteriously disappeared. The next morning Herbert appeared at a neighbor’s and said Zeigler was dead. He thought heart disease was the cause of his death, but he had not examined him Zeigler was found with three bullet holes one in the neck to the left and a little below the chin, one lodged in the teeth, on the opposite side and another entered his back and passed through the lungs. Justice Goodman of Havilah was sent for and acting as coroner summoned a jury and held an inquest. Herbert was the only witness that testified.
