He was best known to film viewers for a variety of roles on the big screen such as 'John Casselius' in the 1969 film "Medium Cool" and 'Max Cherry' in the 1997 Quentin Tarantino film "Jackie Brown." Born Robert Wallace Foster Jr., he attended the University of Rochester, where he completed his Bachelor of Arts in history and starred in a few student dramatic performances. He later decided to go into acting after initially intending to study law. In 1964, he went to New York City and got his acting start on the Broadway stage. Three years later, he made his 'big screen" debut in the 1967 film "Reflections in a Golden Eye." Besides "Medium Cool" and "Jackie Brown," he went on to appear in numerous films during his career such as "The Black Hole" (1979), "The Delta Force" (1986), "Mulholland Drive" (2001), "The Descendants (2011), "Olympus Has Fallen" (2013), and "London Has Fallen" (2016). He was nominated in 1997 for the Academy Awards Best Supporting Actor award for his performance in "Jackie Brown." He also made his television debut in 1967 on the series "N.Y.P.D.." He would go on to appear in various television series during his career such as "Banyon," "Nakia," "Police Story," "Magnum, P.I.," "Jake and the Fatman," "Murder, She Wrote," "Walker, Texas Ranger," "Karen Sisco," "Heroes," "Breaking Bad," and "Last Man Standing." He passed away after a battle with brain cancer.
