Benjamin Duhov, a longtime resident of Stamford, Connecticut died Saturday, Nov. 14, 2015 at home with his family. He was 87 years old.
An engineer who spent most of his career in the aerospace defense industry, he was Vice President with the French firm THOMSON-CSF and then continued his work with THALES, then going on to open his own consultant group. At the behest of his colleagues, he put off retirement several times, continuing to work until he was 80 years old.
Mr. Duhov was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of Russian-Jewish immigrants who had come to America only a few years earlier. His parents, passionate Labor Zionists, enrolled him and his sister Goldie in social organizations that reflected their values, first Buds of Zion and later Habonim. He was a graduate of Washington University and served as an officer in the U.S. Navy.
In his adult life, Mr. Duhov continued to be shaped by events of the 1940s, the Holocaust and the founding of the State of Israel. He was active in the United Jewish Appeal, United Jewish Federation, a member of Congregation Agudath Sholom and then Temple Beth El, and a supporter of both Bi- Cultural Day School in Stamford and Saul Mirowitz Jewish Community School in St. Louis.
Mr. Duhov is survived by his wife of 47 years, Dr. Oro-Lucy Garzon-Duhov, their daughter Tamara Duhov her partner Lance Wright, and their daughter Lola. He is also survived by his nieces Judith Newmark and Marcy Cornfeld, both of St. Louis, his nephews Gustavo Garzon of Los Angeles, Marcelo Garzon of Argentina, and several other loving family members throughout the world.
The funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 17th at Temple Beth El 350 Roxbury Rd, Stamford. Interment will follow at Beth El Cemetery. Shiva will held at the Duhov residence on Wednesday and Thursday from 3:00-7:30 and Friday from 12:00-4:00. Arrangements under the direction of Shippan’s Thomas M Gallagher Funeral Home 453 Shippan Ave, Stamford, CT.
