Roscoe E. "Gene" Kuhn, age 88, resident of Shelby died unexpectedly Monday April 24, 2017 at Ohio Health in Shelby.

Born November 6, 1928 in Shelby to Glenn R. and Jeanette (Stoner) Kuhn, he had been a resident of York, Pennsylvania moving back to Shelby in 1998. A 1946 graduate of Shelby High School, he held an Associate's degree from DeVry Technical Institute in Chicago. He worked as an electronics engineer at AMF in Shelby and in York, Pennsylvania. He was also employed with American Chain and Cable in York where he secured a patent for the under bridge trolley system for the Camden Bridge in New Jersey.  A veteran of WWII, he served as a sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Gene's memberships include Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church and the American Legion O'Brien Post #326.

He enjoyed working on the computer and took great joy in helping under privileged children learn how to operate them. He was an avid coin collector and loved spending time with his family and friends. He will be remembered by his favorite saying "Life is good, every day is a gift."

Gene and his wife Bernadette were recently honored at the Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church for their 70th wedding anniversary, where they had received a congratulatory plaque signed and with special blessings by Pope Francis.

Survivors include his wife, Bernadette (Sheridan) Kuhn whom he married April 5, 1947; his children, Robert (Peggy) Kuhn of Austell, Georgia, Sandra Jean Shimmel of York, PA and Michael Alan (Jessica) Kuhn of Newnan, Georgia; nine grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; one sister, Joyce (Gerald) Hawk of Shelby; nieces, nephews and other relatives. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Bill Kuhn and one sister, Nancy Volk.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Friday, April 28, 2017 at Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory with Father Chris Mileski of the Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church officiating. Interment will be held in the Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 10:00 to 11:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers memorial expressions may be made to Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church.
