Abu Bakr was a close friend of the Prophet Muhammad (saw) and the first Caliph/Khalifah of the Rashidun Caliphate.Islamic political figure. Abu Bakr was born as Abdullah ibn Uthman ibn Amir ibn Amr ibn Ka'b ibn Sa'd ibn Taym ibn Murrah ibn Ka'b ibn Lu'ayy ibn Ghalib ibn Fihr to a wealthy family of the Banu Taym tribe of the Quraysh tribal confederacy in the Hejaz at Makkah, Saudi Arabia in the year 573 C.E. He too became a wealthy and well respected businessman. He was informed on his return from a business trip to Yemen that Muhammad had declared himself the Messenger of Allah and was proclaiming a new religion, Islam. Soon after, Abu Bakr embraced Islam. He would spend the next 23 years with Muhammad as one of his most trusted companions and even becoming Muhammad's father-in-law when Muhammad married Abu Bakr's daughter, Aisha. In 632 C.E., Muhammad died, and Abu Bakr was chosen as the first of what would called in Sunni Islam the Rashidun (Rightly Guided) Caliphs. He ruled the Islamic ummah, or community, for two years before his own death in 634 C.E at Medina. Before his death, he chose another close companion of Muhammad, Umar ibn al-Khattab, to succeed him as caliph. He was buried next to the prophet Muhammad in Al-Masjid an-Nabawi (The Mosque of the Prophet) in Medina.
