Oklahoma City resident Emsley Verdane (Lee) Akin, 85, died July 5, in Midwest City Regional Hospital.

Lee was born Dec. 4, 1921, in Maud to Daniel R. Akin and Earsy Akin.

Lee Akin achieved a BS in business from Oklahoma City University in 1952. He joined the U.S. Navy in World War II and was called up to serve in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. His career also covered the Vietnam War period. He retired from the Air Force in 1969 with full honors.

In 1986, he retired from his position as the Deputy Director of the Oklahoma Civil Defense. He was a long time member of the First Baptist Church of Midwest City and a 50 year member of Midwest City Lodge #532 of A.F & AM.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father and his older sister Stella.

Lee is survived by his wife, Martie; son, Daniel Akin' two daughters, Jerrlyn Akin and Victoria Miller; two brothers, Delbert and Leroy Akin; a granddaughter, Jennifer Lynch and a great-granddaughter, Hannah.

Visitation will be held on today and Monday with formal visitation 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Barnes and Johnson.

Service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesay at First Baptist Church of Midwest City with burial at Arlington Memorial Cemetery.
