James R. Keene, son of Edmond B. and Dora Belle Keene, was born March 24, 1911 in Boone County. He was better known to his family & friends as J.R. He worked in the automobile business until his retirement.
On January 26, 1935 he married Emma Lillian Holloway. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1985. One daughter: Bette Jeanne
J.R. was a very creative person. He enjoyed his garden and playing the violin and could play anything by ear. He and his wife, Lillian, enjoyed traveling to Branson, Missouri in their travel trailer twice a year to enjoy the country music shows.

James R. Keene of Columbia died today, November 18, 1987, at Columbia Regional Hospital. He was 76.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Parker Funeral Chapel 22 N. Tenth St. with the Rev. Sam Langley officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. tomorrow at the funeral home.
Mr. Keene was born March 24, 1911, in Boone County to Edmond B. and Dora Jones Keene and attended Boone County and Columbia Public Schools. He married Lillian Holloway January 26, 1935, in Columbia, and she survives. Mr. Keene lived his entire life in Boone County and worked as an auto mechanic until retiring in 1974. He was a member of the First Christian Church.
Surviving with his wife are one daughter, Bette Scavone of Columbia; two brothers, Edmond B. Keene, Jr., of Columbia and Woodrow W. Keene of Solo; one sister, Margaret Nienaber of Columbia; and two granddaughters. One sister and one brother preceded him in death.
