Lillian Holloway Keene, daughter of Thurston J. & Mary Jane Holloway, was born December 8, 1917. On January 26, 1935 she married James R. Keene (J.R) by the Rev. J. E. Cropp.

Lillian worked at all three educational institutions in Columbia. Her career begin at Stephens College in the Publications Office, then to Christian College (now Columbia College) as secretary to the President. She was promoted to being the Registrar at CC before moving on to the University of Missouri as an Admissions Counselor. She held that position until her retirement.

Lillian H. Keene, 88, of Columbia passed away Monday, Dec. 26, 2005, at Boone Hospital Center. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 29 at Parkers Funeral Service with the Rev. Dr. John Yonker officiating. Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Lillian was born Dec. 8, 1917, in Columbia to Thurston J. and Mary Jane Berry Holloway. She attended Lee Elementary School and Jefferson Junior High and graduated from the University High School and The Rosenthal School of Commerce in 1935. On Jan. 26, 1935, she married James R. Keene, and he preceded her in death.
Lillian began her career as a secretary to KFRU in 1936. She served in various capacities at all three of our educational institutions: Stephens College from 1943 to 1952, as Christian College's registrar from 1952 to 1960 and as admissions adviser at the University of Missouri from 1960 to 1982, until her retirement.
She was a member of the Columbia Altrusa Club and DAR and an honorary deacon at First Christian Church, where she became a member in 1927.
Lillian is survived by a daughter, Bette Scavone, and son-in-law, Nat, of Columbia; two granddaughters, Barbara Martin of Jefferson City and Carolyn Chang of Sedona, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial may be given to the charity of the donor's choice.
