The family understands that a May 5, 1842 Cashel Parish, Ballyfowloo, marriage record of Joseph Doyle and Mary Ann Morrissey Doheny indicates that Joseph was born in Ballylooby Townland, County Tipperary Ireland. Family history is that Mary Ann Morrissey was born in Ballyfowloo Townland where the Morrissey family owned a farm. Mary Ann first married John Doheny in Cashel Parish Ballyfowloo on February 14, 1833, and they had a daughter Catherine in April 1834 while living in Kilconnell. However, John & Catherine passed away, and then Mary Ann returned to Ballyfowloo. Mary Ann then married Joseph. They had three children, first living in Ballyfowloo and later in Ardfinnan. Family history is that the family came to the US in the early-1850's. They may have arrived in Boston, & possibly stayed in Pennsylvania with the family of a relative, before coming to St. Paul, MN. They eventually settled in Jessenland. Joseph was a US Citizen by 1857. He served in the Minnesota 2nd Regiment Infantry from June 4, 1864 to July 20, 1865. The family believes that Joseph Doyle's brother is Patrick Doyle whose wife Ellen Dwyer (#182460658) is known to also be buried in Saint Thomas Cemetery in Jessenland, but without any visible headstone for Patrick who is likely buried there. The family believes that their father is named Joseph.
