Memory fom original submitter of his burial marker:

When I was a child we lived in
Enterprise, Kansas.

We went to the church where Harry Colas was the preacher from the time I was 4 until I was 11.

My father was the Rock Island Depot Agent in Enterprise and Harry Colas was his friend. Harry would go visit my dad at the Depot sometimes.

When I had just turned 10, in 1968, my father, Wilburn "Bill" Looney, died in his sleep on Sunday morning, March 3, 1968.

We did not go to church that morning, of course, but Harry had to conduct services somehow. After church, he was one of the first ones to come to our house.
He was there for us throughout that time.
It must have been very difficult for him also.

I always remember him (Harry) as being
full of energy and life.

Sincerely,
Caryn Hood

From member of Colas family:
Caryn,
Thank you so much for passing on these memories!
It is a perfect example of the compassion and legacy we knew. So good to have someone else in kinship share their memories with us too.

To all:
It is also a perfect example of the good this website does..At first when I came across this website doing genealogy research, it caught me off guard... I know it does that to a lot of people...photos of gravemarkers?
People submitting markers around their town?

But..since...for many years now, we have photos for future generations of our ancestors out of state, made connections, and then also submitted photos of markers in the small town cemeteries we have gone to while doing our own searches..
then sharing/connecting.

Grandpa Colas would be so proud of Barb, his granddaughter, for all her time and effort in
reasearching/documenting this family line..
Not only birth and death dates - but from there -
obtaining wonderful memories/narratives like the one above!

If you feel put off like I did at first about this web site.. Read the above again about Grandpa Colas..

Look what pieces of gold you might receive because of a gravemarker photo placed or info submitted in this site...Wow..

Bio note:
Bible given to his grandson, Mike - who has passed it down to his son, Andrew.

- Harry was born in Sturgeon, Pennsylvania;
Son of Leon Colas and Anna Ernestine Bazelget DuBois.

First marriage to Sarah Frances Walburn; They had 3 children - then widowed with 3 young children, Harry then married Lula - no children from this marriage.
