LORAIN OHIO – Allen Nelson Fountain, 69, of 11851 Lake Avenue, Lakewood Ohio, died on 1/4/1961 after a heart attack at work. He was a “lofts-man layer-out” worker at the Lorain Yards, American Ship Building Company. He was pronounced dead at St. Joseph Hospital, Lorain Ohio, at 1:57 p.m. on 1/4/1961.

He joined Great Lakes Engineering Company when it first opened in Ashtabula Ohio, and he had worked at his rare mold loft layer-out trade all but fourteen years of his working life. During the intermission period of time, he worked with the Ashtabula Fire Department.

He was born on 12/7/1891 in Bay City, Michigan. He went to Ashtabula Ohio when the Great Lakes Engineering Company was first organized and worked at many Great Lakes ports, including the ASB Buffalo Yard at Toledo, Ohio.

He was a member of St. Rose Church, Cleveland Ohio, and the Propeller Club.

Survivors included his wife, Marie; two daughters, Mrs. George (Jeannette) Sidley, Detroit Michigan, and Mrs. Robert (Frances) Davidson, Marengo Ohio; and seven grandchildren.

Calling hours were held at Zaback Funeral Home, 442 Prospect Road, Ashtabula Ohio. The funeral service was held in St. Joseph Church, Ashtabula Ohio. Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery, Ashtabula Ohio.
