Melanie Panayiotou was born on 22 October 1960 to Kyriacos and Lesley (Harrison) Panayiotou. She was the second daughter born to the couple, joining her sister, Yioda. Later a third child, a son, would join the family.
Not much is known publicly about their childhood. We only get small glimpses in various reports. Her brother had to accompany her to the ice skating rink, the parents were a little more strict with their daughters than they were with their son, and according to Andros Georgiou, he, George and Melanie would fight over who got to sing the lead to the song, "Crazy Horses". One thing is clear, the relationship between Melanie and her brother, Georgios, was close.
Melanie was a hairdresser by trade and would travel with her brother at various times in his early career.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Lesley in 1997; and her brother, known to the world as George Michael, who died on the same day three years prior.
She will be remembered as a very kind and thoughtful person. The 59-year-old leaves behind her father, Kyriacos, and her older sister, Yioda.
