Per his death certificate, Abraham David died on 2 May 1920 at the Stockton State Hospital in the city of Stockton, San Joaquin County, CA. He was admitted to the state hospital on 17 Feb 1920 for treatment. He was treated by the hospital staff and Dr. H. E. Landerson was one of the physicians on the team. He determined that Mr. David died of "Cerebral Arteriosclerosis." Mr. David was thereafter buried in the Stockton Rural Cemetery on 4 May 1920. The firm of Pope and Smith of Stockton handled the funeral arrangements. The hospital records were used to fill out the limited personal information on the death certificate. Mr. David was white, married, and a kitchen helper. He was 70 years old, giving him a birth year in or about 1850. He was born in Indiana. He had been at the hospital for two months and 15 days and in California for 13 years.

He was sent to the Stockton State Hospital on 16 Feb 1920 by a superior court judge in San Francisco, CA, at the request of Mr. David's daughter Pearl Ebinger, who then lived at 1012 Capp Street in San Francisco. Mr. David began deteriorating mentally about six months earlier and his daughter feared for his safety. It was known at the time of his commitment that he suffered from arteriosclerosis.
