The body of Mrs. L. L. Porter, 72, of Palo Alto, Calif., a former South Bend resident, who died Saturday in Palo Alto's Stanford Hospital, will be returned to South Bend for graveside services at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Riverview Cemetery.
Born [Anne Carlisle d/o Charles Arthur CARLISLE and Anne STUDEBAKER] in South Bend in 1892, she was the widow of LaFayette LeVan Porter. The Porters were married in South Bend in 1918, moving to Greencastle [Ind.] in 1930 and California in 1955.
Mrs. Porter had devoted 41 years to the Daughters of the American Revolution, serving as regent of the Schuyler Colfax Chapter and later regent at Greencastle, and vice president, regent and chairman of the State organization. She had served as national chairman of the student loan fund and was treasurer of the National Officers Club as well as its central director. In 1959 she was elected one of the nine honorary vice-president generals.
She is survived by a son, LaFayette LaVan Porter Jr. of Palo Alto, a daughter, Mrs. Barney H. McClure of Menlo Park, Calif., nine grandchildren, a brother, Richard M. Carlisle of North Caldwell, N.J. and a sister Mrs. Paul A. Campbell of San Antonio, Tex.
Memorial services will be held Tuesday in the Menlo Park Presbyterian Church. The family requests that donations be made to the DAR Student Loan and Scholarship Fund, Los Altos Chapter, 10160 Camino Vista Dr., Cuppertino, Calif."
