Andrew E. Potter, 70, of Weston passed away at home surrounded by his family on Thursday, October 26, 2017, due to lung and bone cancer caused by exposure to Agent Orange during his three tours of duty in the Vietnam War as a helicopter door gunner and tunnel rat.

He was born in Weston on August 28, 1947 to the late Walter A. Potter and Eltha “Agnes” Ireland Potter.

On August 30, 1969 he married his soul mate and love of his life, Doris “Jean” Thorne Potter. During their 48 years of marriage, their family and friends deeply admired the unwavering love they showed for one another.

Andy’s strong, kind spirit will be carried on by his two children: Andrew E. Potter II and wife, Jeanette, of Alum Bridge and Amanda J. Potter, of Camden. Andy and Jean also had a close family friend who they claimed as on of their own, Tonya Chandler, of Weston. The most precious and dearest to Andy’s heart were his eight grandchildren: Tonja, Keri, Nikki, Tyson, Christain, George, Andrew III and Jyllian; and nine great grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers: Richard Potter of Temple, TX and Jerry Potter of Auckland, NZ, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, an aunt, and several cousins who Andy loved and cherished dearly.

In addition to his parents, paternal grandparents, and maternal grandparents, Andrew was preceded in death by two brothers: Dana and Stevie Potter; and sister-in-law, Dee Potter.

Andy worked as a diesel mechanic in the Operating Engineers Union Local 132, and was the former owner/operator of Potter’s Hilltop Inn. He loved going to church with his wife on Sundays, and spending as much time as humanly possible with his family, especially his grandchildren. His all-time favorite memories were of the times that he and his wife packed up his Harley Davidson Trike and traveled anywhere and everywhere they wanted to go, with especially fond stories of their cross-country treks out west. He was a true hero to all who knew him, and he fought with everything he had for what he believed in, and had a love fiercer than anything on this Earth for his family and friends.

Family and friends are welcome to join the funeral procession at the Pat Boyle Funeral Home and Cremation Service at 144 Hackers Creek Rd. in Jane Lew promptly at 1:45 p.m. on Sunday, October 29, 2017 to proceed to Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens for a 2 p.m. Graveside Service with Pastor Bob King officiating.
