STANLEY - Barbara Cassell McCorkle, 81, transitioned March 10, 2017, at her home surrounded by family.
She was a native of Gaston County, daughter of the late James and Bessie Barnwell Cassell.
Funeral service will be noon Tuesday at Springfield Memorial Baptist Church, 2920 Dallas-Stanley Highway, Stanley.
Visitation will be 30 minutes before the service at the church.
Arrangements are with Gregory Funeral Service Gastonia.

Mrs. Barbara McCorkle born 1935 in Gaston County, North Carolina, and departed this life Friday, March 10, 2017 at her home in Stanley, North Carolina.
She was the daughter of the late Mr. Edgar and Bessie Barnwell Cassell. Barbara was proceeded in death by two brothers, William "Bill" Cassell , Deacon James Edgar Cassell, Jr. ,three sisters Betty S. Cassell Robinson, Mrs. Helen Cassell McCorkle, Mrs Katrina McCollie, and daughter-in-law Iris Froneberger McCorkle
Barbara graduated from Highland High, School, Gastonia, NC. She worked and retired from J.P. Stevenson after 35 years of service.
She was a member and past president of the Hymn Choir of Springfield Memorial Baptist Church, Stanley. Barbara love working puzzles, crocheting and working in her yard. On Mother's day she would request flowers to put on her porch and in the yard, to enjoy all summer long. She possessed a quite strong spirit, and faith that God was a friend who could be trusted.
Those left to cherish her memories are her husband of 64 year Thomas McCorkle. One daughter Dianne Lynch (Deacon Bruce), three sons: Rickey McCorkle of Stanley, Deacon Mitchell McCorkle (Janice) of Charlotte, NC. Philip McCorkle (Janelle) of Stanley, NC. Nine grandchildren and 5 great grand children. A first cousin who was like a sister Mary Brooks of Gastonia.
Sisters and brother-in–laws: Norma Cassell, Mitchellville, Maryland, Joyce Cassell, Pittsburg, Pa., Mrs. Lousie Hollowell (Pat) Elton, Maryland, Joyce Rankin, Mt. Holly NC. Bobby Joe McCorkle (Dorothy) of Mt. Holly, NC, Mrs. Lorraine McCorkle of Charlotte. A host of nieces, nephews relatives and friends.
