Accepted as a "convinced" friend by request on May 24, 1809 at the Marlborough Religous Society of Friends in Ulster County, New York. He married there on October 5, 1809 Dorcas Cornell. The meeting records indicate she was the daughter of Josiah and Anna Cornell and that he was the son of Joseph and Meribah Coddington. On March 27, 1811 David, Dorcas, and son Alexander were granted a certificate from Marlborough to the Richland Monthly Meeting in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. On March 24, 1813 David, Dorcas and son (unnamed) received a certificate to return to Marlborough. On March 24, 1818 granted a certificate from Plains (Catskill, New York) to Scipio in Cayuga County, New York with his family. Another entry of June 18, 1818 regarding the certificate to Scipio names Dorcas and children, Alexander, Anna,Joseph and Richardson.

Enumerated in Elmira, Tioga (that portion that became Chemung) County, New York in 1820 with two males under age ten (b. 1811-20), one male of age ten and under age sixteen (b. 1805-10), one male of age twenty six and under age forty five (b. 1776-94), two females under age ten (b. 1811-20), and one female of age twenty six and under age forty five (b. 1776-94).

On January 22, 1829 at Hector (Schuyler County, New York) monthly meeting with Dorcas and children, Alexander, Anna, Joseph, Richardson, Phebe, and Henry, transferred to Scipio (Cayuga County, New York).

Hannah Cornell, wife of Richard Wilde, and sister of Dorcas Cornell were enumerated nearby.

Ausburn Towner wrote in OUR COUNTY AND ITS PEOPLE - A HISTORY OF THE VALLEY AND COUNTY OF CHEMUNG (1892) - "In the early history of the town there resided in the vicinity of the village several families known as Friends or Quakers. Their meetings were held at the house of Richard Wild on the farm since known as the Wild farm. Prominent among those belonging to this sect were Richard Wild and wife, Francis Bowman and wife, David Coddington, Benjamin Palmer, Amos Crandall, Townsend Carpenter and wife, Richardson Cornell, John Marshall and his family, Josiah Cornell, Stephen Estes, and Sally Westlake. In 1831 the Scipio Society of Friends by their trustees purchased the lot where Mrs. Shute resides and erected a building for the use of this society. This was known as the Quaker meeting-house, and was occupied by the Friends until about 1854. By removals and other causes the society diminished in numbers until but few remained. Among these were Josiah, Levi, and Samuel Marshall. The property of the society was sold to Mrs. Shute and the building was used in the construction of the dwelling where she now resides."

The sister of Dorcas, Hannah Cornell and her husband Richard Wilde were also enumerated in Sherwood.
