Agnes F. Bolton
August 26, 1943 - October 20, 2019
gnes F. (Ferris) Bolton age 76 of Shrewsbury, formerly a long term resident of Somerville, died at home Sunday, October 20th, 2019 surrounded by her family. Born and raised in Somerville,
she was the daughter of the late Richard J and Mary (Pagliuca) Ferris. She was the loving wife
of 50 years to the late Michael E Bolton of Shrewsbury. Agnes was a wife, a mother, a grandmother, and friend to those who knew her. As a wife, she was devoted to her husband strove to make the happiest home for her family. A strong-willed woman, Agnes was the glue that held her family together and taught her 3 children, through example, the important lessons
of honesty, integrity, self-respect and hard work. In her mind, there was not an obstacle that could not be overcome or a problem that did not have a solution. Her lessons were not in books philosophical. She led by example, showing us how a woman could rise from a part-time bank teller to the manager of the entire UMASS payroll system. Agnes instilled in each of her children a love of learning and the discipline to put effort into education. She taught us that humility is not a weakness and that family should always come first. Always first to lend a hand to those in need and she never expected anything in return. Sometimes she had a temper and, at
times, could hold a grudge, but would always give people the benefit of the doubt. Nothing made Agnes happier than her grandchildren.

She was at her absolute best when surrounded by her 8 grandchildren. Agnes would go out of her way to cook Sunday dinner for the family, always asking if "There was enough food", even though she had prepared enough to feed a small army. The holidays were extra-special with her around. She would spend hours decorating cookies with her grandchildren, setting up the Christmas decorations just so, observing time-honored traditions and picking something special for each child. Always interested in what her grandchildren had to say, she would spend time talking to each one and more importantly listening to what each had to say. Although she hated
to fly, she made the effort to visit her grandchildren wherever they were. She had a tremendous impact on their lives and her lessons of kindness and family will remain with them forever. Being "Nana" was truly the most important title she ever had.
Agnes is survived by her children, Michael Edward Bolton II and his wife Patricia of Stow, Richard Ferris Bolton and his wife Jennifer of Parker, Co and Alison Ann Kiefer and her husband Ken of Shrewsbury; 8 grandchildren, Janice, Michael, Gillian, Emma, Ella, Jake, Abigail and James. She is also survived by her sister Ginger (Ferris) Wallace of Brandon FL.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her visiting hours on Thursday, October 24th at the Chiampa Funeral Home ~ The Sumner House, 5 Church Rd, Shrewsbury Center from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM. Funeral Mass at St. Mary's Church, 640 Main St., Shrewsbury will be Friday, October 25th at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Mt. View Cemetery, Shrewsbury.
