Vickie Rae Marks, 59, formerly of Winner, S.D., died Wednesday, September 23, 2009 at the St. Benedict’s Health Center, Dickinson. Private family services will take place at a later date.

Vickie Rae Anderson was born March 11, 1950 in Winner, S.D., the daughter of William and Zelda (Crabtree) Anderson. She graduated from Winner High School in 1968. Completed her Bachelors degree in Social Work from Black Hills State College in 1979, and her Masters degree in Social Work from the University of Denver in 1985.

Vickie spent her life helping others. She gave her wisdom and compassion to children in need of support and later in her career tended to the terminally ill as a home health worker. She spent the last five years living in San Felipe, Mexico, believing that the warm sun and clear blue ocean waters would help heal her cancer. After ten years of living with cancer, she died peacefully near her family in Dickinson.

Vickie is survived by her daughter, Heather Spaulding, Dickinson; two grandchildren, Jorden and Isabella Spaulding, Dickinson; brother, Wesley (Kim) Anderson, Flagstaff, Ariz.; and three nephews, Kelly Swedlund, Christopher and Alexander Anderson. She was preceded in death by her father, William Anderson; her mother, Zelda Anderson; sisters, Barbara (Anderson) Swedlund and Shirley (Anderson) Bettcher; and her niece, Teri Lynn Swedlund.

In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to Heartland Hospice, Dickinson.
