Ransom Fry aka Ransom Frye was the husband of Rosanna "Rosa" (Milstead) Frye (1854-1924). They were married on September 4, 1875 in Cameron County, Texas. Ransom served in Co. H., 114th United States Colored Infantry and Co. B, 12th US Colored Infantry. He was promoted several times - from Private, to Corporal and finally, to Sergeant.

His military records indicate that he had been a slave and his owner is listed as Harvey Scott (although further research shows it to be Hervey Scott (1804-1890) of Jessamine County, Kentucky). Hervey Scott owned 50 slaves in 1860 in Jessamine County, Kentucky. He owned 26 slaves in 1850. Most likely, Ransom was one of those slaves.

Ransom was mustered in at Camp Nelson on July 12, 1864, age 25.
