On Monday, February 17, 2020, Peggy Ellen (Fowler) Layton passed from this life to join the God she served so faithfully throughout her long and fulfilling journey on this earth. She was born December 25, 1929 in Avant, Oklahoma to Benjamin Adolphus Fowler and Margaret Melvina (Wright) Fowler. She was the youngest of 11 children who moved around frequently as their father worked for the M, K & T Railroad. They settled in Tulsa, Oklahoma where Peggy graduated from Daniel Webster High School. It was there she met her future husband, Charles Mac Layton and they married in Tulsa on June 29, 1951. She was a life-long member of the church of Christ where she served as the wife of a minister and elder for more than fifty years. She helped her husband in founding two flourishing congregations: North MacArthur Church of Christ in Oklahoma City and Deer Creek Church of Christ in Edmond. She had great style and possessed amazing creativity with many talents from painting to needle arts to home decorating. She had a beautiful singing voice and enjoyed sharing it with others all through her life. She was a kind and loyal wife, sister, mother, grandmother and friend. Her final year was spent in the gentle, loving care of her son, Brian, who without fanfare, enabled her to die peacefully and with dignity. She was preceded in death by her parents, all of her 10 brothers and sisters, her husband of 50 years, Charles Mac Layton, her precious granddaughter Lindy Jane Layton and many of her dearest friends. She is survived by her son Tim Layton and his wife Susan, her son Brian Layton and his wife Donna and her grandchildren: Brett Layton and his wife Lisa, Emily, Luke and Jackson. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, March 4, at 11:00 a.m. at Deer Creek Church of Christ, 6225 NW 178th Street, Edmond, Oklahoma.
