Funeral services for Mr. Edward Henry Burkhalter will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 12, 2020, in the Chapel of Rush Funeral Home, Oakdale with Reverend Jerry Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in Resthaven Cemetery, Oakdale, under the direction of Rush Funeral Home, Oakdale.
Mr. Burkhalter, 79, of Oakdale, entered eternal rest on Saturday, March 7, 2020 in Ochsner Medical Center, Baton Rouge, LA.
Edward served seven years in the United States Airforce and was discharged as Airman 1st Class. He worked in many capacities at NASA for over thirty years; starting with the Gemini Program all the way through the International Space Station. He was an electrical genius and loved his family greatly. Edward was also the commander of the Oakdale American Legion Post #56.
He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-eight years, Margaret Ann Burkhalter; four sisters, May Burkhalter Mask, Fannie Lou Kuti, Robbie Lee Norris, Peggy Siddons and one brother, Daniel Forest “Red” Burkhalter, Jr.
Those left to mourn his loss and cherish his memory include his son, Gregory Burkhalter and his wife, Sandra, of League City, TX; his daughter, Susan Walta, of Pasadena, TX; one sister, Francis Earlene Vanderbrink, of Pasadena, TX; five grandchildren, Philip M. Wicker, Isaac Burkhalter, Ruth A. Burkhalter, Brittney Walta and Amanda Walta; four grandchildren, Micah Wicker, Zoey Walta, Sadie Walta and Evelynn Cruz.
