s/o John Gideon (Gid) Bingham and Bessie Woody Bingham

*The above was contributed by Mary Jo, who originally created this memorial to Clyde Bingham in 2007. Thank You!

Clyde was born to John Gideon "Gid" and Bessie A. Woody-Bingham in 1912.

Clyde was the Big Brother of L.E. Bingham; as L.E. was growing up in the large Bingham household. Clyde was L.E.'s champion and best friend. Even though Clyde was 12 years older than his little brother, Clyde took his little brother under his wing.

Clyde enlisted in WWII on 26 June 1942 at Forth Oglethorpe, Ga. (Clyde was approx. six weeks away from turning thirty years old)

Clyde Served in WWII in the Quartermaster Corp.
*The Quartermaster Corp was responsible for providing General Supplies to the troops (excluding ammunition & medical supplies); Graves & Registration (now known as Mortuary Affairs); Food Service; Military Transport (until 1942); Military Construction (until the early 1940's); U.S. Army Remount Service, providing horses and war dogs; Military Heraldry (over seen the research, design, development, standardization, quality control, and other services relating to official symbolic items - seals, decorations, medals, insignia, badges, flags, etc. items awarded to or authorized for official wear or display by government personnel and agencies); Fuel & Water; and they provided Field Services (i.e. parachute packing, heavy & light parachute drops, rigging, and sling loading - they also provided showers, laundry, fabric/light textile repair material and distribution).(*Wikipedia)

Clyde married Jewel Ross and they raised their three children in the Ebenezer community. Clyde and Jewel later divorced after their children were grown.

Clyde would later meet Cynthia Pauline Watson and after a short courtship they were married on 24 December 1966 in Chester Co., Tennessee. Then Clyde moved to Sardis to make his home with Pauline there.

Less than two years after their marriage, Clyde was killed on his farm, in the Ebenezer community, in a farming accident when his tractor rolled/flipped over on him, trapping/pinning him under the tractor.

Clyde and L.E. maintained a close friendship throughout the years until Clyde's tragic and untimely death in 1969.

NOTE: Uncle Clyde died in the front seat of the ambulance with Howell Taylor Power who had come in the ambulance from the Scotts Hill Funeral Home to pick him up after the accident.

For those of you not old enough to remember those days; the ambulance service in this area was provided by the funeral homes and not the hospital. Not until sometime in the 1970's did the hospital become the main provider for ambulance services. (9/19/2016) m.g.
