E.H. Brown Succumbs
E. Herbert Brown, a retired employee of the Beechnut Packing Co. in Canajoharie and a native of Bennington, Vt., died last night at the Samaritan Hospital after a lingering illness.
Mr. Brown came to Troy as a young man and had resided at RD 3 at the time of his death. He had formerly been in business with his father, manufacturing farming machines, and later worked at Ide's cellar factory. Mr. Brown had been employed at the Beechnut company for 15 years before his retirement in 1945.
A life member and recipient of the 50 year medal from King Solomon's Lodge, F&AM. Mr. Brown was also a member of the Apollo Chapter, RAM; past patron of Palestine Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, and the First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his widow, Mary Wilkins Brown; his mother, Mrs. Sarah W. Brown of Troy; one son, Eugene H. Brown of Torrington, Conn., one daughter, Mrs. Edith McLaren of Troy; and five grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Bryce Funeral Home, 1820 5th Ave., with Rev. Ralph J. Bertholf pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
