Richard Paris
July 28, 1928 - March 13, 2020

Richard Paris, 91, passed away March 13, 2020, at his Fresno home. He was born on July 28, 1928, in Fresno, California to Bridges and Katherine Paris. Richard was a graduate of Fresno High School, and attended Fresno State College. He began his career at an early age delivering and selling newspapers, and working at a gas station while attending school. After finishing school, one of his first jobs was selling paper products for Blake, Moffit, & Towne in Fresno. During that period, he met his wife Orine Harrah; and they were married after a short courtship. A few years later, they started a family having two boys, David and Larry. Not long after, Richard was given the opportunity to go to work for Orine’s father’s family business, Terminal Air Brake Supply. He was tasked with selling truck parts and service throughout the San Joaquin Valley and enjoyed it immensely. He became a partner in the business and eventually became the sole owner in the late 1980’s. With his persistence and strong-willed desire to succeed, the business flourished. After over a 40 year career with Terminal Air Brake Supply, he retired in the year 2000.

Richard always had a desire to become a mason and did so in February 1973 He rose to a 33rd Degree Mason, and in 1979 became Master of the Fresno Lodge. While in the Masonic Lodge, Richard became active in other orders of the organization: Sottish-Rite, and the Shriners. Though his roots were with the Masonic (Blue) Lodge he found his true passion with the Scottish-Rite order. In 1998, he was appointed to the distinguished position of Personal Representative, and held the position for 21 years. He also was one of the few who were instrumental in the development of the Fresno Scottish Rite Childhood Language Center in which they help children with language and speech disorders. Richard was also an active member of the Sierra Model A Ford Club and enjoyed many of the club’s jamborees, outings, participation at the Clovis Rodeo and Christmas parades, and cherished the many friendships he had with club members. Another hobby he and Orine enjoyed was their Model Garden Railroad they built in their backyard and belonging to the San Joaquin Garden Railway Society.

Richard and Orine raised their two boys with much love and enjoyed many family activities together like water & snow skiing, family vacations to Lake Tahoe, and the coast. He was involved with many of his boys’ sports activities, and the Indian Guide program. After Richard retired, he and Orine took many trips together going to the East Coast, Great Lakes & Mississippi, Caribbean & Panama Canal cruises, visiting friends in the Peugeot Sound, and going to their vacation home in Morro Bay. He always enjoyed the family gatherings for the holidays, birthdays, and seeing the grandchildren and great grandchildren. Richard and Orine were blessed to have had 66 years of marriage together.

After Orine passed, Richard became reacquainted with an old family friend, Rose Franks. Richard and Rose became close and enjoyed doing many activities together. She was such a welcomed companion to Richard in his remaining years. The family is especially thankful to Rose for her devotion in helping Richard with his health challenges and in the final days of his life.

We want to especially thank the staff at Well-Being Senior Solutions, and Hinds Hospice for all their compassionate care, attentiveness, and kindness in his final month. We thank Pastors Tim Rolen, and Cecil Spurlock for their many visits and prayers for Richard.
